Enforced Rest = Thumbs Down

Hi everybody!

Two blogs this week, welcome to the first!

Since the start of 2018, I've been training like its... 2017? Last summer I made huge strides towards being the man I wanted to be - physically, mentally and even spiritually. I've been so proud of my progress into 2018 and started strong, but following an appointment in November I've had a surgery appointment hanging over my head.

Longest plank indeed!

Today was the day, and keyhole surgery was performed on my abdomen. I won't go into the gory details BUT I can confirm that I'm unable to work for two weeks. I was thinking because of this that after 3 or 4 weeks I'd be fine to begin working out again - I was wrong...

I CAN'T LIFT WEIGHTS FOR SIX WEEKS.

Its fair to say I wasn't prepared for this. If I'm honest, I'm gutted (almost literally) - I've worked so hard to get to this point. My plan was to be my own inspiration for returning to training, but that only gets me so far when I'm sinking into the sofa for 2 weeks.

So, with recovery likely to take some time, I have a plan.

1) Regular walks.

I'm lucky enough to live close to the town centre, so I'm hoping for a stroll every day in lieu of leaving for work every morning. I'm also close to the seafront, and will be even closer soon (fingers crossed!).

2) Running.

Once I've had my fill of walking each day and feel able enough, the plan is to run 5k as many weekdays as possible. While it may not keep my arms pumped up, it'll go some way to helping with the way I view myself. Again, the seafront provides a perfect opportunity!

3) Focus on positives.

I have plenty to be thankful for and plenty of things to focus on - a big one is that shortly I'll be moving (hopefully) to a lovely flat near the seafront to make a fresh start for myself. Secondly, I'm hoping to have plenty of visitors while I'm at home for these first two weeks! Finally, I can focus on clearing my "pile of shame" games backlog and blogging!

So yes, this is a setback. I've come back from worse, and it may seem trivial to some but exercise is a huge outlet for me. I can't wait to bounce back from this and hit harder than ever in the run-up to Summer.

Oh! One more thing - I'm going to add a "Now Playing" section to the bottom of each blog post. My music taste is all over the place (in a good way!) and things may not be current, but I hope I can introduce people to some new artists.
